April 17: Continuing its drive against drug trafficking and substance abuse, J&K Police arrested 09 drug peddlers in Anantnag, Sopore and Awantipora and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A police party from PS Kokernag during naka checking at Hangulgund Kokernag apprehended one individual identified as Nazir Ahmad Dar son of Ab. Gani Dar resident of Bumdoora Kokernag. During search, 7.84 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession. Similarly, a police party from Police Station Dooru intercepted a Tavera vehicle bearing registration number JK02AW-1305 during naka checking with two persons on board, including the driver identified as Ajaz Ahmad Tantray son of Manzoor Ahmad Tantray resident of Kapran A/P Anchidora Anantnag and Rayees Ahmad Sheikh son of Bashir Ahmad Sheikh resident of Khreti, Larnoo, were apprehended. During search, 5.91 grams of brown sugar-like substance was recovered from their possession. Moreover, a police party from PP Khanabal during naka checking at Harnag Crossing apprehended two persons identified as Suhail Ahmad Bhat son of Gh. Qadir Bhat resident of Krangsoo Mattan and Umer Khan son of Ab. Rehman Khan resident of Reasi. During search, 02 grams of heroin-like contraband substance was recovered.

In Sopore, during the course of investigation of FIR No. 89/2026 of Police Station Sopore, a search was conducted at Shah Faisal Market, Sopore, in the presence of an Executive Magistrate. During search of crockery shop belonging to Mukhtar Ahmad Kanjwal son of Ghulam Rasool Kanjwal resident of Noorbagh Sopore, psychotropic substances including Spasmo-Proxyvon Plus, Pregabalin and Nortriptyline tablets, unsealed bottles of codeine-like substance, and contraband brown sugar-like substance were recovered and seized as per due procedure. Subsequently, the accused has been arrested in connection with the case. In a separate instance, during night naka checking at Wagub Crossing, a naka party of Police Post Putkha intercepted one person identified as Tanveer Ahmad Shah, son of Mohammad Akbar Shah resident of Wagub Sopore. During search, psychotropic substance Spasmo-Proxyvon Plus was recovered from his possession.

In Awantipora, acting on reliable information regarding illegal possession of narcotic substances by an individual Haroon Rasheed Bhat @ Aaqib son of Ab Rasheed Bhat resident of Renzipora, Reshipora. A police party of PS Awantipora alongwith concerned magistrate raided at the accused’s residential house and recovered 340 grams of Charas powder-like substance besides, arrested the accused involve in the commission of crime. Moreover, Police apprehended a drug peddler during naka checking at Khar Mohd, Awantipora, identified as as Bilal Ahmad Rah son of Abdullah Rah resident of KP Road, Khanabal, Anantnag. During search, approximately 55 grams of charas powder-like substance and 16 grams of charas were recovered from his possession.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation have been initiated.

J&K Police remains committed to its zero-tolerance policy against drug menace and urges the general public to cooperate and share any information related to drug peddling for the safety and well-being of the society.
