Srinagar, Sept 01: The National Conference (NC) on Monday strongly hit back at Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma, accusing him and the BJP of “playing politics” at a time when Jammu and Kashmir is reeling under the devastation of floods, landslides, and cloudbursts.
“It is unfortunate that instead of helping people on the ground, the LoP and the BJP are busy scoring political points ,” NC spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq told news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).
“People have shown their anger in videos for their absence. They should have stood with those who voted for them, rather than making political speeches,” he added.
On Sunday, LoP Sunil Sharma had alleged that the Omar Abdullah-led government had “completely failed” the people of J&K, accusing it of a “delayed and disorganized” disaster response.
Responding to the criticism, the NC pointed out that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had been on the ground from day one, personally monitoring relief efforts and even visiting the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on Sunday to oversee restoration work.
“Omar Abdullah is ensuring that relief reaches affected families, but what is equally needed is a special flood relief package from the Centre,” Tanvir said.
“The scale of destruction demands that the Prime Minister and Home Minister announce a comprehensive package for relief and rehabilitation in Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.(KINS)
