Ganderbal, April 24 : A family from Gutlibagh area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district has alleged medical negligence by doctors following the death of their newborn baby at District Hospital Ganderbal.

According to the family as pwr news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, the expecting mother had been admitted to the hospital two days prior to the incident after her pregnancy had crossed the due date, with the surgery reportedly scheduled for April 20. The family claimed they repeatedly requested doctors to refer the patient to SKIMS Soura if the case could not be handled locally, but their pleas were allegedly ignored.

“They kept telling us that everything was normal. Even 15 minutes before the surgery, doctors said the baby was fine. Suddenly, they decided to take her for surgery, and after the procedure, the baby was declared dead,” a family member alleged.

The bereaved family has demanded a thorough investigation into the matter and sought strict action against those found responsible. They have urged higher authorities to intervene and ensure justice.

Meanwhile, the Medical Superintendent Ganderbal, while speaking to reporters, said that a team has been constituted to look into the incident. “The team has been asked to submit its report within two days, after which further action will be taken based on the findings,” she said.

The incident has triggered concern among locals, who are calling for accountability and improved healthcare services in the district. (KNC)
