Jammu, Jan 24: Traffic Police Headquarters, Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday said that the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) will remain closed for vehicular movement on January 25 due to heavy snow accumulation at multiple stretches, including between Nachlana and the Navyug Tunnel.

An official told news agency Kashmir News Corner (KNC) that snow clearance operations are currently underway; however, no movement will be allowed from Nagrota (Jammu) towards Doda, Ramban, Banihal and Srinagar, and vice versa, till conditions improve. The Jammu–Doda road has also been closed due to snowfall.

The advisory further stated that commuters belonging to Katra, Reasi and Udhampur towns are advised to carry valid photo identity cards to facilitate smooth movement at checkpoints.

Meanwhile, the Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag National Highway (NH-244) remains closed for traffic due to fresh snowfall, officials said. Similarly, the Srinagar–Sonamarg–Gumri (SSG) road and the Mughal Road are also closed owing to heavy snow accumulation.

Traffic Police have advised people to avoid unnecessary travel and to undertake journeys only after confirming the latest road status from Traffic Control Units. Commuters can contact the Traffic Police at Jammu (0191-2459048, 0191-2740550, 9419147732, 103), Srinagar (0194-2450022, 2485396, 18001807091, 103), Ramban (9419993745, 1800-180-7043), Udhampur (8491928625), PCR Kishtwar (9906154100) and PCR Kargil (9541902330, 9541902331).

Traffic Police have urged the public to follow advisories strictly in view of prevailing weather conditions. —(KNC)
