Handwara: A group of paramedical students from Handwara pursuing their degrees outside Kashmir Thursday staged a protest against the Government Medical College Handwara administration over alleged denial of internship opportunities.

The group accused the GMC Handwara Principal of deliberately wasting their precious time, stating that students from other districts are securing internships in various hospitals, while they are being denied the opportunity by the College administration.

The students said that they have been waiting for over a month for the internship, but unfortunately, the GMC Hospital administration isn’t listening to them, causing them distress and forcing them to hit the streets.

The aggrieved students maintained that they had raised the issue with the Secretary of Health and Medical Education and the Deputy Commissioner of Kupwara also and despite assurances of redressal, no action has been taken so far.

The students claimed that they tried to meet the Principal but the latter allegedly did not grant them time.

Despite attempts made by media persons to meet the Principal, the group had to retreat back fruitless as the Principal, as usual, feigned her busy schedule.

Meanwhile the aggrieved students have reiterated their appeal to Secretary of Health and Medical Education Syed Abid Rasheed Shah and Deputy Commissioner of Kupwara Ayushi Sudan to intervene into the matter for an early redressal.
