May 17: Continuing the drive against drug trafficking under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, police have arrested three drug peddlers in Awantipora and Anantnag and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A police party from Police Post Aripal during naka at Darganiegund intercepted two suspicious persons. During search, 1.89 Kgs of a Cannabis like were recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Bashir Ahmad Ganie son of Gh. Qadir Ganie resident of Dar Gani Gund and Mohd Yousef Ganie son of Gh. Mohd Ganie resident of Yangwani Aripal. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.

In Anantnag, a police party of Police Station Bijbehara, while conducting naka checking at Tulkhan Crossing, intercepted and apprehended one person identified as Ab Gani Sofi son of Mohammad Rajab Sofi resident of Sethar Sangam. During his personal search, 102 grams of charas in the form of sticks, concealed in corn husk, was recovered from his possession.

Accordingly, cases under relevant provisions of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigation has been taken up.

Police remain committed towards making society drug free and continue to intensify efforts under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan to curb the menace of narcotics and ensure a safer and secure environment for the public.
