Kulgam, May 22: Continuing its intensified crackdown against narcotics-related activities, Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kulgam attached a double-storied residential house worth around ₹51 lakh belonging to an alleged drug peddler in Yaripora area of the district.
Officials said the attached property belongs to Umar Yousuf Rather, son of Mohd Yousuf Rather, a resident of Chinigam Frisal, Yaripora. The property was identified as having been acquired through proceeds generated from the illegal trade of drugs and narcotics.
Police said the attachment was carried out in connection with FIR No. 69/2021 registered at Police Station Yaripora under the provisions of the NDPS Act. The proceedings were executed under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act through the competent authority SAFEMA.
The action was conducted in the presence of a duly constituted police team and an Executive Magistrate to ensure transparency and adherence to legal procedures.
Meanwhile, Kulgam Police, along with Revenue Department officials, also carried out a demolition drive in the jurisdiction of Police Station Manzgam. During the operation, one illegally acquired shop/store belonging to Bashir Ahmad Ganie, son of Abdul Karim Ganie, a resident of Avil KB Pora, was demolished after completion of legal formalities.
Police further said that around three marlas of state land under Khasra No. 59, allegedly encroached upon by the accused drug peddler, was also retrieved during the drive.
Kulgam Police reiterated its commitment towards eradicating the drug menace by targeting not only drug traffickers but also the assets generated through illicit narcotics trade. Police also appealed to the public to share information related to drug trafficking and other narcotics activities.(KNC)
