Srinagar, July 15 (GNS): Police On Wednesday said it “rescued” BJP’s Vice President Municipal Committee Watergam Baramulla, Meraj ud Din Malla who was allegedly abducted by some unknown persons in the north Kashmir district.

“The person has been rescued by police,” Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar told GNS. However, he declined to divulged further details. A police official said that details would be revealed after Malla’s interrogation.

Earlier a senior police officer told said that Malla was bundled into a santro vehicle by the ‘unknown persons’ while he was walking on a road to meet his friend. The officer said that searches were launched to trace him. Asked whether the alleged abductors were armed, the officer had said: “It is a matter of investigation.”   Malla had won unopposed from Marazigund (A and B) wards as a BJP. Meanwhile, former Chief Minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah raised a volley of questions.

“Rescued from where? Who abducted him? Was he given personal security & if he was then how was he abducted? How was he rescued without a shot being fired? Did the abductors just dump him & run when the police rescued him? This abduction & rescue raises more questions than answers,” he said in a tweet. (GNS)
