Locals Raise Health Concerns, Urge Authorities to Ensure Supply of Quality Food Grains

Ganderbal, July 25: Residents of the Lar area in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have alleged that poor-quality atta (wheat flour) is being distributed through government sale centres, prompting concerns over food quality and public health.

According to local residents, the wheat flour being supplied appears to be of substandard quality and is allegedly unfit for regular consumption. They expressed apprehensions that continued use of such flour could pose health risks to consumers, particularly vulnerable sections of society.

The locals urged the concerned authorities to immediately inspect the available stock, verify the quality of the flour, and initiate a thorough investigation into the matter. They also demanded that only quality food grains be supplied through government sale centres to safeguard the interests of consumers.

Speaking to the news agency Kashmir News Corner (KNC), an official from AD Mills acknowledged that the issue had already come to his notice.

“The matter is already under my notice. I have written to the Director regarding the issue, and I hope it will be resolved in the coming days,” the official said.

Meanwhile, residents have appealed to the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations and take strict action if any irregularities are found. They stressed that timely intervention is necessary to maintain public confidence in the public distribution system and ensure the availability of safe and quality food supplies. (KNC)
