Bandipora: Residents of Rakh Sultanpora Gadakhod in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Friday staged a protest demonstration against PDD department over non-availability of electricity in the area. They also blocked the Singhpora-Sumbal road for several hours.
According to locals, the PDD department installed a 63 KV power transformer in the area under Din Dayal scheme nine months ago. However, the transformer has not been put to use till date due to which the area is in complete darkness, they alleged.
“The matter was brought to the notice of PDD officials several times but they did not respond, forcing us to come to streets,” Bashir Ahmed Dar, a local resident, told GNS.
“Our protest will continue till authorities ensure power supply in our area,” he added.
An official of the PDD department told GNS acknowledged that the concerned transformer has been installed in the area under Din Dayal scheme. “Since the work on the transformer has not been completed, our department has not put it to use yet. As far as power supply in the area is concerned, we will try to restore that in a few days,” he said.
When contacted, the Project Manager of Din Dayal scheme told GNS, “We worked on the project as per drawing, but the PDD officials asked us to work further on it. So, it took time. We will complete it in a week.” (GNS)
