Kupwara, Jun 19 (GNS): A number of people on Saturday staged protest, demanding immediate action against those responsible for death of a youth within three days of his marriage in Wavoora Lolab area here earlier this month.
The protestors, mainly women, took to streets and chanted slogans, demanding justice for the youth. The protestors demanded police to expedite the investigation and bring to book all those responsible for the death.
The police urged the protesters to remain peaceful and assured them fair investigation into the matter.
When contacted, a police official told GNS that a case (FIR No. 38/2021) stands registered at Police Station Sogam Lolab. Two persons have been already arrested while the case has been converted to section 306 of IPC (abetment to suicide) from section 309 of IPC (attempt to suicide), the official said.
The youth had died after consuming some poisonous substance.
Meanwhile DIG North Kashmir Range, Sujit Kumar, who was on official visit to the area, interacted with the protestors and assured them that the things will be made clear very soon.
When contacted, Kumar told GNS, that preliminary investigation into the case is ongoing. “Things will be clear within a matter of few days,” Kumar added. (GNS)
