Jammu, July 30: The Jammu district administration has suspended a revenue official and initiated proceedings for dismissal from service after verifying a complaint alleging that money was demanded for issuing an income certificate.

According to the District Magistrate, Jammu, a citizen approached the Deputy Commissioner’s office alleging that he had to pay money to obtain an income certificate.

The administration said the complaint was promptly verified and found to be prima facie true, following which the official concerned was placed under suspension. It added that proceedings to dismiss the official from government service have also been initiated.

The District Magistrate’s office reiterated that essential public services, including income certificates, domicile certificates, ration cards, FARDs and other revenue documents, are legal entitlements of citizens and should be provided without any illegal payment.

The administration appealed to the public to report any instance of an official demanding money or gratification for delivering government services, assuring that complainants’ identities would remain confidential and that strict action would be taken against those found guilty.

“Do not pay. Do not adjust. Do not let it go. One complaint moved an entire system yesterday. Yours can too,” the District Magistrate’s office said in its public appeal. [KNT]
