Visits to Aru Valley, Betaab Valley Discouraged During Heavy Rainfall; Emergency Control Rooms Activated
Pahalgam, July 23 : In view of the continuous heavy rainfall and the significant rise in water levels of rivers, streams, nullahs and other water bodies, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Pahalgam, has issued a public safety advisory, urging residents, tourists, yatris, drivers, pony-wallas, guides, shopkeepers and visitors to exercise extreme caution.
According to the advisory, members of the public have been strictly advised not to venture near riverbanks, streams or any other water bodies, as the increasing water levels pose a serious threat to life and property.
The administration has also appealed to people to refrain from camping, trekking or picnicking near vulnerable water bodies until weather conditions improve.
The advisory further directs tour operators, hoteliers and pony-walla associations to sensitize tourists and discourage them from moving towards rivers and streams. Tourists and visitors have also been advised to avoid visiting Aru Valley and Betaab Valley during periods of continuous heavy rainfall due to the heightened risk of flash floods and landslides.
The SDM has instructed all concerned departments and the general public to remain vigilant, cooperate with the local administration and police, and strictly adhere to the safety guidelines issued in the interest of public safety.
To ensure prompt assistance during any emergency, the administration has established Tehsil-Level Control Rooms for Srigufwara, Pahalgam and Sallar, with designated officials and contact numbers made available for immediate public assistance.
The advisory, issued under the directions of Sub-Divisional Magistrate Pahalgam Amit Gupta (IAS), came into effect on July 23, 2026, as authorities continue to monitor the prevailing weather situation and take precautionary measures to safeguard lives.(KNC)
