Srinagar, 28 Jan (GNS): Sempora residents in Sopore of Baramulla district are aghast over authorities concerned for their alleged failure to make through a blocked flood channel starting from Rashidabad upto Malpora. The spillover from the channel, as per them, has entered locality at various places including Graveyard and a mosque premises.

A delegation from the area told GNS that the flood channel which got blocked few years, remains as such owing to failure of concerned department to restore it.

“However until recently, the water level increased in fallout of snowfall, causing the spillover to residential areas particularly the graveyard and mosque premises thereby causing huge inconvenience to all of us”, they said.

“With no step taken by the authorities, we are forced to bury our loved ones’ in the watery graveyard”, the delegation members said.

The delegation members however said that “although the Rural Development Department (RDD) had started work at various spots but left it mid-way for the reasons best known to them only.”

“We have even then brought the issue into consideration of Rural Development Department, I&FC relevant authorities, however no concrete step has been taken upto now to mitigate our sufferings”, they said adding that “If situation remains as such amid prevailing inclement weather conditions, the day is not too far when our houses would even be drenched by the water.”

Meanwhile when contacted, BDO Dangerpora said that he will look into the matter at an earliest.

“The matter is being taken into consideration and the VLW concerned will be sent there to assess the prevailing situation as to ease out the things for local populace”, BDO said. (GNS)
