District-wide raids aimed at dismantling terror support networks after Anantnag incident
Srinagar, July 22 (GNS): In a major security operation aimed at dismantling the ecosystem supporting terrorism, Srinagar and Ganderbal Police conducted extensive district-wide raids across multiple locations on Wednesday following the recent terror incident in Anantnag.
In a handout to GNS, the police said that in Srinagar, coordinated operations carried out on the basis of credible intelligence led to the detention of nearly 700 suspected Over Ground Workers (OGWs) for questioning and verification in accordance with legal procedures.
Simultaneously, Ganderbal Police launched a series of raids across the district, detaining more than 100 suspected OGWs for sustained questioning.
Officials said the operations have been undertaken to identify and neutralise networks that provide logistical, financial, communication, transportation, shelter, and other forms of support to terrorist organisations.
Searches were conducted at several locations in both districts to gather evidence, identify suspects, and prevent any attempts by terrorist elements and their facilitators to carry out unlawful activities.
The detained individuals are being questioned to ascertain their role, if any, in activities prejudicial to the security of the Union Territory.
Srinagar Police said the exercise also serves as a preventive measure to maintain public order, enhance security, and deter anti-national elements from exploiting the prevailing situation.
“Srinagar Police remains steadfast in safeguarding the lives and security of citizens and ensuring that those involved in supporting terrorism are identified and brought to justice. Such intelligence-led operations will continue in close coordination with other security and intelligence agencies,” a police spokesperson said.
Ganderbal Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and communal harmony, and said stringent action will continue against individuals found involved in activities that threaten public order or national security, strictly in accordance with the law. (GNS)
