Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir witnessed an exceptionally warm June, with Srinagar recording its hottest June since 1978 and Qazigund experiencing its warmest June in over 50 years.

“In Srinagar, the average maximum temperature for June 2025 was recorded at 31.0°C, while the mean minimum stood at 18.2°C, culminating in an overall average of 24.6°C,” according to data shared by Faizan Arif of Kashmir Weather.

This places June 2025 as the second hottest June since the beginning of meteorological records in the city, which date back to 1892. The only hotter June was in 1978, when the average temperature peaked at 25.0°C, with a scorching mean maximum of 32.9°C, though the nights were slightly cooler with a minimum of 17.1°C.

Interestingly, 2008 continues to hold the record for the highest mean minimum temperature for June in Srinagar at 18.3°C, narrowly surpassing this year’s mark.

Historically, the exact average temperature of 24.6°C was also recorded in 1971 and 1973, making this year’s June one of the top four hottest Junes on record for the summer capital.

Meanwhile, in Qazigund, the story isn’t much different. June 2025 clocked a mean maximum of 30.3°C and a mean minimum of 16.1°C, adding up to an overall monthly average of 23.2°C. That makes it the warmest June in the station’s recent history, matching the average recorded in 1978, and falling just short of the all-time high of 23.7°C registered back in 1973.

While the 1973 temperatures were marginally higher, 30.4°C max and 16.9°C min, this year’s numbers reflect a persistent warming trend. The highest average minimum for June in Qazigund remains 17.3°C, recorded in 1971, when the overall mean had touched 23.3°C.
