Srinagar, July 8(GNS): Police on Tuesday said that they have apprehended suspect involved in excavation of graveyard and urges peace and order in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

In a handout to GNS, the police said that it swiftly responded to a sensitive incident that occurred late on the night of July 7, 2025, at a graveyard in Shiapora village, Delina. At approximately 11:50 pm, local community members reported unauthorized excavation activity using a JCB machine within the graveyard premises.

Responding promptly, a police team from PP Delina, led by senior officers including DySP HQ Baramulla and SHO Baramulla, took the situation under control. JCB used for excavation stands seized and order is restored at the site, he said.

The contractor responsible for the excavation has been taken into custody. FIR nr 124/2025 has been registered at PS Baramulla under relevant sections of law. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the absconding JCB driver and others potentially involved.

Baramulla Police reaffirm its commitment in ensuring justice, maintaining law and order and ensuring communal harmony. We strongly urge citizens to cooperate with authorities in preventing rumour mongering and request to report any attempts to incite unrest to our immediate notice, reads the statement.(GNS)
