FIR Registered Under NDPS Act; Anantnag Police Reaffirms Zero-Tolerance Policy Against Narcotics
Srinagar, June 17: In a major success against drug trafficking, Anantnag Police on Tuesday arrested two alleged drug peddlers in the Achabal area and recovered a substantial quantity of contraband substance from their possession during routine naka checking.
According to police officials, a team from Police Station Achabal was conducting naka checking near Achabal Garden when two suspicious individuals were intercepted. They were identified as Faisal Ahmad Mir, son of Manzoor Ahmad Mir, a resident of Jogigund Achabal, and Mukhtar Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Rasool Mir, a resident of Shelipora Achabal.
During the search, police recovered approximately 734 grams of charas powder-like substance and 5 grams of charas tikki-like substance from their possession. The accused were immediately taken into custody, while the recovered contraband was seized in accordance with legal procedures.
Police have registered FIR No. 54/2026 under Section 8/20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Achabal. Further investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source and intended distribution network of the seized narcotics.
Anantnag Police reiterated its commitment to eradicating the menace of drug abuse and trafficking from society and emphasized that strict action will continue against those involved in narcotics-related activities.
The police also appealed to the public to cooperate in the fight against drugs by sharing any information regarding drug peddling or substance abuse in their localities, assuring that the identity of informants will be kept confidential.(KNC)
