Updated Policeman killed, another injured in Pulwama militant attack

Pulwama, May 21 (GNS): A policeman was killed and another critically injured after militants attacked a joint police and paramilitary CRPF party in Pulwama district of south Kashmir on Thursday.

A police officer told GNS that the militants fired indiscriminately at the joint naka near Prichoo area of Pulwama, resulting in injuries to two policemen who were removed to sub district hospital.

One of them was declared brought dead while other was referred to Srinagar for specialized treatment. Sources said that the joint team also fired back but attackers managed to flee unhurt.

Dr. Jameel Ahmad Medical Superintendent confirmed to GNS that one personnel was declared brought dead on arrival while other, injured critically, has been shifted to Srinagar hospital.   The slain cop has been identified as ead Constable Anoop Singh of IRP 10th battalion while injured as Mohammad Ibrahim. 

The police, CRPF and army immediately cordoned off the entire area and launched searches to track the attackers. However when the report was filed, no arrests were made.

Meanwhile, the joint launched cordon and search operation in twin villages of Karimanad and Wagum.

Inspector General of police Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar confirmed to GNS the killing of the policeman. Later in the afternoon, civil and Police Officers led by IGP Kashmir, IGP CRPF Rajash Kumar, DC Pulwama Ragov Langar laid floral wreaths on the body and paid rich tributes to the cop. (GNS)
