Leh, Mar 13 : Vinai Kumar Saxena on Friday took oath as the fourth Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh during a ceremony held at the Arya Nagarjuna Auditorium of the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS) in Choglamsar.
The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Justice Arun Palli, as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC.
Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra earlier read out the warrant of appointment issued by the President of India, following which Saxena formally assumed charge. He succeeds Kavinder Gupta as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
After the swearing-in ceremony, Saxena was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour by the Ladakh Police. Speaking to media persons, he expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for entrusting him with the responsibility and said he would work in accordance with the aspirations of the people of Ladakh.
Highlighting his priorities, the new Lieutenant Governor said the administration will focus on tourism development, environmental protection and sustainable growth in the region. He added that he intends to visit remote villages and interact with local communities to understand their concerns and ensure balanced development across the Union Territory. (KNC)
