Srinagar, Jul 8 (GNS): A 22-year-old youth drowned in a tributary of river Jehlum in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday evening.
Reports reaching GNS said that the youth, Yawar Ahmad Narchoor (22) son of Javid Ahmad Narchoor, a resident of Ashagipora, had taken to the water body for bath at Bange Nowgam area of the district this evening.
Soon after the news spread, rescue teams were rushed to the spot by the administration. After recovery, the youth was evacuated to Government Medical College Anantnag, however the doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead.
Confirming the death, Medical Superintendent Anantnag, Dr Majeed Mehrab told GNS that the youth has purportedly died due to asphyxiation.
A police official meanwhile said that the body of has been handed over to the family after medico-legal formalities. (GNS)
