September 11: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, police have arrested two drug peddlers in Kulgam and Anantnag and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
During naka checking on the National Highway near Navyug Tunnel, a police party of Police Station Qazigund intercepted an Alto K10 bearing temporary registration No. JK01C-0049T. During checking, a polythene bag containing approximately 60 grams of Heroin-like substance was recovered from a passenger travelling in the vehicle. The passenger was identified as Sikandar Singh son of Vasakha Singh, resident of Moga, Punjab, and was taken into custody.
In this connection, case FIR No. 20/2026 under Section 8/21 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Qazigund. The investigation is underway to establish the source and intended destination of the recovered contraband and to ascertain the involvement of any other persons in the drug-trafficking network.
Similarly in Anantnag, a police party from Police Station Uttersoo apprehended one person identified as namely Muzaffar Ahmad Wani son of Ghulam Mohd Wani resident of Panchalthan, Uttersoo, at Buchan Crossing, Khanzaman. During his search, charas was recovered from his possession.
In this regard, a Case FIR No. 92/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Uttersoo, and investigation has been taken up.
Police reiterates its commitment to combating the menace of drug trafficking and urges the public to extend cooperation in identifying and reporting activities related to the illegal trade and distribution of narcotic substances.
