Bandipora, Dec 1 (GNS): At-least ten houses were gutted in a massive fire in a remote hilly area of Gurez in this north Kashmir district, officials said on Wednesday.
An official told GNS said that soon after receiving information about the fire incident in Tatri Kilshey village late last night, two fire tenders—one from Tulail and other from Gurez stations—besides police personnel were rushed to the spot to douse off the flames. However, he said, the village is about 25 kilometers from Tulail station. “The road is upto 20 kilometers only and rest about 5 kilometers is to be tracked by foot,” he said.
Official sources said that blaze already engulfed at least 10 structures. However, the official said there was no report of injury or loss to human life.
SDM Gurez, Mudasir Ahmad said the tentative information suggested that 10 houses were gutted in Tatri Kilshay fire incident.
Reports further mention that the property worth lakhs of rupees has been completely damaged in the fire.
Meanwhile, expressing deep anguish over the fire incident, Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha directed the District Administration Bandipora to conduct an on-the-spot assessment and provide immediate relief to the affected families.
Acting on the directions, the district authorities have immediately supplied Blankets, Sustenance Kits (Cooking Oil, Pulses, etc.), Household Utensils and immediate cash assistance of Rs 1.50 lakh (15000/- to each family), besides every possible support shall be extended to the families. Temporary rehabilitation/ shifting shall also be arranged wherever required.
Further, a relief of Rs 1.10 lakh to each affected family whose residential structure has been completely damaged shall be released tomorrow under SDRF norms. The Lt Governor has directed the district administration to ensure each family is properly looked after and further support for building new houses should be extended to the affected families.
Senior Sub Divisional Administration officers are also stationed on the spot for the assistance of the affected families. (GNS)
