Rajouri, May 5 (GNS): Over 150 sheep and goats died due to lightning amid heavy rains on Monday late night at upper reaches of Kalakote in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. Reports reaching GNS said that a total of 157 sheep and goats were killed late last night after the lightning struck Poutha forest area of Kalakote. The sheep belonged to five persons and the incident occurred when their herds were on seasonal migration towards Kashmir Valley, they said. Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Sheikh Nazir told GNS that 157 sheep and goats belonging to five persons were killed in the lightning last night. “I am presently on the spot along with other officers of the administration and police,” DC said. The DC said that 50 thousand each to five families under Red Cross will be given to them besides; he said funds under SDRF will be also given to the families as compensation. “I have directed concerned department to allot the sheep units to each one of them,” DC said.
