4 drug peddlers held, contraband substances recovered

Srinagar, April 14 (GNS):  Police in a series of actions against drug dealings in Handwara and Srinagar have arrested four drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

“In Handwara, officers from Police Station Kralgund at a checkpoint established at Thokerpora crossing intercepted an individual identified as Suhail Ahmad Dar resident of Lokipora,” a police spokesman in a statement issued here said.

Officers were able to recover contraband substance (Heroin) from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Kralgund where he remains in custody, the spokesman said.

A case FIR number 39/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Kralgund and investigation has been initiated, the spokesman said.

“In Srinagar, officers at a checkpoint in Shergarhi area intercepted three persons identified as Madina,  Zubair Ahmed Bhatt and Mudasir Ahmed Sheikh all residents of Allochibagh. During checking officers recovered contraband substance (Charas) from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody”.

A case FIR No. 20/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Shergarhi and further investigation into the matter has been initiated, he said.

“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law”.

Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace, he said. (GNS)
