Uri (Baramulla), Jun 22: Catering to the long-pending demand of residents, administration in Uri town on Monday inaugurated two public lavatory blocks in the frontier Baramulla district.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by a host of officials including Sub-Judge Uri, Imtiyaz Ahmad Lone, SDM Uri Reyaz Ahmad Malik alongside Duty Magistrate COVID-19 Uri Naveed Altaf (KAS), Executive Officer Municipal Committee Uri Syed Aijaz Ahmad and President Municipal Committee Uri Bharat Kumar.
An official told Kashmir Glory said that the work on the construction of two lavatory blocks — each with five-seat capacity — by Urban Local Bodies Department (ULBD) was taken up in September 2017 to facilitate the people of Uri town.
The work has been completed three months ago, the official said adding “one block has been allocated to Sub-district Hospital Uri and another constructed at local Sumo Stand.”
Urban Local Bodies had outsourced the construction of lavatory blocks to a non-government organization ‘Youngster’ even as central government also approved thirty lakh rupees to the department under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan scheme, the official said.
Pertinent to mention here that the only serving toilet in Uri market was damaged in the aftermath of October 8 (2005) earthquake, making the construction of new toilets “highly imperative”.
Meanwhile, Chairman Beopar Mandal Uri Haji Mohammad Shafi expressed gratitude to Sub-Judge Uri, SDM Uri and Jammu Kashmir National Conference Vice President North Zone Sajad Shafi for “fulfilling the long-pending demand of the people especially of the traders fraternity.”
