Srinagar, Aug 28: Raksha Bandhan was being celebrated in Srinagar on Friday, with devotees turning up in large numbers at the Shankaracharya Temple to offer prayers on the occasion.
Long queues of devotees were witnessed at the temple as people waited for their turn to pay obeisance.
Special traffic and parking arrangements have been put in place to manage the rush of devotees visiting the hilltop temple.
Srinagar DYSP Traffic Mehboob-ul-Haq said the arrangements were functioning smoothly and additional transport facilities had been made available in coordination with the district administration.
“Traffic arrangements are fine. Here, with the help of the District Administration, we have arranged for RTC vehicles, which are ferrying people from the bottom to the top of Shankaracharya temple and then bringing them back,” he said.
He said free parking arrangements had also been made for visitors and added that the traffic department was prepared to handle the expected increase in the number of devotees during the day.
The Shankaracharya Temple remained a major point of attraction for devotees observing Raksha Bandhan, with authorities maintaining arrangements for their movement and convenience. [KNT]
