 Srinagar, Mar 12 (GNS):  Militants on Saturday evening shot dead a paramilitary CRPF personnel at Check Chotipora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian.

Official sources told GNS that militants fired upon Muktar Ahmad Doie son of Mohammad Jamal Din Doie, leaving him critically injured. He was shifted to hospital where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival. Mukhtar had returned home on leave.

A doctor at district hospital Shopian told GNS he had bullet injury in chest, lower back and right side of face.

A police officer confirmed to GNS the killing which comes a day after Sarpanch was shot dead in Kulgam district.

Meanwhile Lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha strongly condemned the “cowardly attack on Mukhtar Ahmad, the braveheart of CRPF”. “My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. We will not forgive and we will not forget,” he said in a tweet, adding, “The perpetrators of abhorrent, inhuman act shall be punished”.

Former Chief Minister and National Conference Vice president Omar Abdullah said that there was “a very worrying spurt in the last 7-10 days with off-duty security personnel, mainstream political workers & civilians targeted in attacks.” “My heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased CRPF Jawan Mukhtar Ahmed. May he find place in Jannat,” he said n a tweet. (GNS)
