Srinagar, July 4 (GNS): Srinagar Police on Saturday issued an advisory debunking a viral claim on social media that buses carrying pilgrims for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra were attacked and caught fire near Lal Chowk in Srinagar.

In a post on X, Srinagar Police said the claim is “entirely false” and that no such incident has taken place.

“False and misleading information is being circulated on Social Media platforms claiming that buses carrying pilgrims for the Amarnath Yatra were attacked and caught fire near Lal Chowk, Srinagar. This claim is entirely false and no such incident has taken place,” the advisory read.

Police further stated that the viral video being circulated in connection with the Yatra is unrelated and has been “falsely linked to the pilgrimage.”

The Srinagar Police urged the general public not to create, circulate, or share unverified or misleading content that may cause panic or disturb public order.

“Strict legal action shall be initiated against individuals found creating, sharing, or reposting false information in violation of applicable laws,” the advisory warned.

Citizens have been requested to rely only on information issued through official government and law enforcement channels and to verify facts before forwarding or sharing any content on social media.(GNS)
