Pulwama, Sep 4: Residents of Malangpora village in South Kashmir’s Pulwama have raised concerns over the quality of drinking water from borewells after pits dug along the Airport Road for cable installation were allegedly left unfilled following completion of the work.
Locals said the contracted firm dug several portions of the road for laying the cable but failed to properly refill the excavated stretches after the work was completed. They alleged that following even light rainfall, water from the unfilled pits seeps into the surrounding ground, affecting the quality of water drawn from nearby borewells.
According to villagers, the borewell water has turned dirty after rainfall, raising concerns over its suitability for drinking and the possibility of contamination from surface runoff entering the groundwater system.
The villagers have urged the concerned authorities and the contracting firm to inspect the affected locations and restore the excavated stretches without further delay.
They have also called upon the Jal Shakti Department to expedite implementation of the “Har Ghar Nal, Har Ghar Jal” programme in the village, saying a reliable piped drinking-water supply would reduce dependence on borewells and provide residents with a safer and more consistent source of water.
Residents said restoration of the dug-up portions should not be delayed further, particularly as continued rainfall could aggravate the problem and further compromise local water sources. [KNT]
IndiGo Aircraft Hits VDGS Pole While Parking At Srinagar Airport, All Passengers And Crew Safe
Srinagar, Sep 4, KNT: An IndiGo aircraft operating flight 6E 225 from Navi Mumbai to Srinagar was involved in an incident while being positioned at Bay No. 06 of Srinagar Airport on Friday morning.
According to the available details, the aircraft, identified as VT-NOG, made contact with a Visual Docking Guidance System (VDGS) pole while being positioned at the parking bay at approximately 0902 hours.
All passengers and crew members on board were reported safe, and no injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.
The circumstances that led to the aircraft coming into contact with the VDGS pole were not immediately clear. Further details regarding any damage to the aircraft or airport equipment were awaited. [KNT]
