Srinagar, Sep 3: Jammu and Kashmir Bank has approved around 1,400 posts for recruitment, opening the prospect of a major employment drive for young people in Jammu and Kashmir after a prolonged gap in large-scale hiring by the bank.

Managing Director and CEO Amitava Chatterjee said the bank’s Board had approved the posts for advertisement in the coming weeks. The recruitment will be focused on candidates holding J&K domicile, while around 40 positions will be available to residents of Ladakh.

The recruitment exercise is expected to be among the bank’s largest in recent years and comes at a time when employment remains one of the most pressing concerns among educated youth in the Union Territory.

The detailed advertisement, including the number and nature of posts, eligibility criteria and selection process, is expected to be issued in the coming weeks.

The bank’s decision also comes against the backdrop of a wider debate over employment opportunities for local youth and the role of J&K Bank as an institution with a strong regional presence.

Chatterjee has said the recruitment will remain locally focused, providing an opportunity to candidates from Jammu and Kashmir while also making a separate provision for eligible candidates from Ladakh. [KNT]
