29 Drug Stores Inspected; Show-Cause Notice Issued for Licence Violation
ANANTNAG, OCTOBER 3: In a major enforcement action aimed at curbing the misuse and unauthorised sale of psychotropic medicines, a joint team of the Drug Control Department and J&K Police conducted surprise inspections at multiple locations across Anantnag district on Saturday.
The inspections were carried out as part of intensified monitoring of the sale and purchase records of medicines considered prone to addiction and misuse.
According to officials, the joint teams inspected medical establishments at Janglat Mandi, Lal Chowk, Reshi Bazar, Khanabal, Botangoo and General Bus Stand, Anantnag, during the enforcement drive.
A total of 29 inspections were conducted across the identified locations. During the inspections, the authorities found violations at several establishments and took immediate regulatory action.
Officials said the operation of four medical shops was suspended on the spot, while one show-cause notice was issued to a medical establishment for allegedly violating the conditions of its drug licence.
The authorities maintained that the inspections were aimed at ensuring strict compliance with statutory requirements governing the procurement, storage, sale and distribution of pharmaceutical preparations, particularly medicines that carry a potential risk of dependence or misuse.
The joint enforcement drive also forms part of the administration’s broader efforts to strengthen surveillance of the pharmaceutical supply chain and prevent diversion of medicines for non-medical use.
Officials further stated that similar inspections and awareness initiatives would continue across the district in the coming days to ensure compliance with drug control regulations and prevent the misuse of pharmaceutical preparations.
The authorities have reiterated that strict action will be taken against establishments found violating the prescribed provisions governing the sale and distribution of medicines.(KNC)
