BANDIPORA, OCTOBER 3: Bandipora Police have solved a theft case registered at Police Post Nowgam with the arrest of two accused persons and recovery of the stolen property during the course of investigation.
According to police, the case originated from a complaint received on September 18, 2026, regarding the theft of various items from Ganastan, Nowgam, following which a case was registered for investigation.
Police said FIR No. 209/2026 was registered under Sections 305, 331(4) and 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Post Nowgam, Police Station Sumbal.
During the investigation, police apprehended Shabir Ahmed Wani, son of Ghulam Qadir Wani, a resident of Sadunara. During questioning, he allegedly disclosed his involvement in the theft along with an accomplice and revealed the place where the stolen property had been concealed.
Acting on the information obtained during the investigation, police conducted a search and recovered the stolen property from the residence of the accused, officials said.
Further investigation led to the identification and subsequent arrest of another accused, Mohammad Shafi Dar, son of Abdul Samad Dar, also a resident of Sadunara. Police said he was allegedly involved in the offence.
Both accused have been taken into custody, while further investigation and interrogation are underway to ascertain their possible involvement in other theft cases and establish the role of any additional persons linked to the offence.
Police said the investigation remains in progress, and further details are expected to emerge as the case proceeds.(KNC)
