Srinagar, Oct 05: Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye have agreed to move towards the practical implementation of their collective defence commitments under the Makkah Alliance for Defense, following an emergency meeting of the alliance’s Strategic Political and Defense Committee in Riyadh on Monday.

The meeting was convened to review security developments and threats facing Saudi Arabia. The three countries reaffirmed their commitment to collective defence and adopted measures aimed at strengthening military readiness, integration and their collective capacity to respond to security threats.

According to a joint statement issued after the meeting, the committee decided to proceed immediately with the practical implementation of collective defence commitments. It agreed to take necessary measures to provide the required military forces and capabilities and ensure their rapid deployment in Saudi Arabia, in accordance with approved arrangements and the national legislation of the participating countries.

The move, the statement said, would enhance military readiness and integration while strengthening the three countries’ collective capacity to confront and counter threats.

The parties also reaffirmed that the security of each member is an integral part of the collective security of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye. They said translating the Makkah Agreement for Joint Defense into practical measures would demonstrate the credibility of their collective defence commitment and strengthen the effectiveness of deterrence.

The three countries also condemned in the strongest terms the attempted targeting of Makkah and Madinah, as well as continuing attacks against cities, civilians and economic facilities in Saudi Arabia. They reiterated their unequivocal rejection of any attack or threat against the Kingdom’s security and territorial integrity.

Pakistan and Türkiye commended the vigilance and readiness of the Saudi Armed Forces and praised their professionalism and competence in countering threats and attacks against the Kingdom.

The committee also appointed Pakistan’s Lieutenant General Nauman Mahmood (Retd.) as the first Secretary-General of the Makkah Alliance for Defense for a three-year term. The participating countries expressed confidence in his contribution to advancing the alliance and achieving its objectives.

The emergency meeting concluded with the parties reaffirming their unity and determination to defend their security, sovereignty and territorial integrity in accordance with the provisions of the Makkah Agreement.
