Tral, Oct 6: Fear gripped Nagbal village of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday morning after a bear attacked and injured a local man, raising fresh alarm over the increasing movement of wild animals into human settlements.
The injured man was identified as Mushtaq Ahmed, son of Abdul Rasheed Gujjar, a resident of Nagbal. According to local residents, Ahmed came under attack shortly after stepping out of his house in the morning. He was later shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.
The incident has intensified concerns among villagers, who said the repeated presence of wild animals near residential areas is posing a serious threat to public safety. Residents, particularly those who leave their homes during the early morning hours, have urged the Wildlife Department to strengthen monitoring and take immediate measures to prevent further attacks.
Villagers have also called for the capture and safe relocation of animals found venturing into inhabited areas, saying timely intervention is necessary to avert a more serious incident.
A Wildlife Department official said a team was rushed to the area after receiving information about the attack and the presence of the wild animal.
The official appealed to residents to cooperate with the department and advised them to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary movement outdoors, especially during the early morning hours.(CNS)
