Srinagar, Oct 12 (GNS): The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has reiterated strict compliance of prescribed dress code for clerks attached to advocates, warning that any breach will invite disciplinary action.

In a circular issued by Registrar Judicial Srinagar, as per GNS it has been observed with concern that clerks attached to learned Advocates are frequently disregarding prescribed dress code and entering premises of Hon’ble High Court in informal or casual clothing.

“This failure to adhere to the dress code undermines the discipline of the institution, while also enabling unauthorized individuals to impersonate clerks and engage in touting activities across the Court and Registry,” the circular reads.

Attention has been invited to Circular No. 17 dated 17.02.2005, wherein standard uniform for advocates’ clerks was duly prescribed upon recommendation of Bar Association with formal approval of Hon’ble the Chief Justice. Subsequently, vide Circular No. 06 of 2024/RG/LP dated 10.05.2024, this direction was reiterated for strict compliance.

In view of the above circulars, it is hereby reiterated that henceforth all clerks to advocates shall strictly maintain prescribed dress code and will only be permitted access to Registry when found in proper attire. It is further directed that prescribed identification badges, clearly indicating their name and name of Advocate with whom they are attached/ working, must be placed on left side of their chest.

As per circular, description of uniform prescribed is: Navy blue shirt and trousers (pant) for summer and Grey Coat and Navy Blue Pant and Shirt or Jersey for winter.

Any non-compliance or breach of these directions shall be viewed with utmost seriousness and will invite disciplinary action against delinquent, the circular adds.(GNS)
