Srinagar, Oct 12: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has sanctioned free travel for persons with disabilities on Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation services and electric buses operated by Jammu Smart City Limited and Srinagar Smart City Limited.

The decision, announced last month, fulfils a Budget announcement made earlier this year, according to the Chief Minister’s Office.

The facility covers services operated by the road transport corporation and the two Smart City companies, extending the concession across specified public transport networks in Jammu and Kashmir.

The announcement marks a policy step towards reducing travel costs for persons with disabilities. Its practical impact will depend on implementation, including how eligible passengers access the concession, what documentation is required and whether the facility is consistently available across covered services. [KNT]
