October 13: As part of its continued efforts to curb illegal mining, prevent unauthorised transportation of minerals and strengthen law and order, Police intensified enforcement operations across Anantnag and Baramulla districts, taking strict action against violations of mining regulations, traffic norms and other unlawful activities.

In Anantnag, police conducted extensive night-time checking operations targeting illegal mining, vehicles plying without valid registration plates and documents, and suspicious individuals and vehicles. During the drive, police seized 11 tractors, 03 tippers, 01 dumper and 01 JCB in connection with action against illegal mining. Additionally, 59 suspicious individuals were detained for verification, while 43 motorcycles found plying without valid documents were seized or challaned as per law. Police also seized 08 vehicles with adverse antecedents for further verification and necessary legal action.

Meanwhile, in Baramulla, police seized two tippers bearing registration numbers JK05K-5865 and JK05B-1376 at Delina for transporting sand in excess of the quantity covered under the royalty receipts. During checking, the vehicles were found carrying sand against royalty receipts issued for only 2 MT, despite the actual quantity exceeding the permitted limit. Accordingly, both vehicles were seized under the relevant provisions of the MMDR Act. After completion of the requisite legal formalities, the prescribed fine was imposed, and both vehicles were released in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Act and relevant rules.

These coordinated enforcement measures reflect the continued commitment of J&K Police to combating illegal mining and unauthorised mineral transportation, enforcing traffic and vehicle regulations, identifying suspicious activities and maintaining peace and security across the region.

J&K Police reiterates that strict action will continue against those found violating the law. The general public is urged to cooperate with the police, carry valid vehicle documents, display proper registration plates, comply with mining regulations and promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police establishment.
