Srinagar, Oct 15: The Directorate of Samagra Shiksha, Jammu and Kashmir, has directed government schools across the Union Territory to implement 10 bagless days for students of Classes 6 to 8, in line with the provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
In a communication, the directorate asked all Chief Education Officers (CEOs) to circulate the prescribed guidelines among higher secondary, high and middle schools where Classes 6 to 8 are being taught, ensuring their implementation at the institutional level.
The initiative aims to promote experiential learning, vocational exposure and competency-based education by incorporating structured, skill-oriented activities into the school curriculum.
According to the communication, the bagless days are intended to encourage active student participation through experiential activities centred on the three Hs — Head, Hand and Heart — emphasising learning through knowledge, practical engagement and personal development.
The directorate said the guidelines would facilitate the systematic implementation of the initiative across schools and help strengthen practical learning beyond conventional classroom instruction.
It has also directed all Chief Education Officers to submit consolidated monthly reports detailing implementation in their respective districts by the fifth of every month through the designated email address.
The initiative forms part of efforts to make school education more activity-based and equip students with practical skills alongside their regular academic learning.
