Srinagar, Oct 29 (GNS): The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet against five persons in a migrant property fraud case involving cheating, forgery and fraudulent sale of land worth over Rs. 1 crore.

In a handout to GNS,the CBK said that the chargesheet in FIR No. 34/2017 under Sections 420, 419, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B RPC has been filed before the Court of CJM Sopore against Brij Nath S/o Tara Chand R/o Amit Nagar Muthi Jammu, Gh Mohi-Ud-Din Dar S/o Ab Khaliq Dar R/o Samson Budgam, Gh Mohd Sheikh S/o Ab Ahad Sheikh R/o Sachin Banit Beerwah Budgam, Zahoor Ahmed Dar S/o Gh Mohammad Dar R/o Margipora Pattan and Reyaz Ahmad Rather S/o Mohd Sultan Rather R/o Margaripora Pattan Baramulla.

The case was registered on a written complaint alleging fraudulent sale of 14 kanals and 3 marlas of land bearing Survey No. 349 at Mouza Wussan, Goshbugh Pattan, owned by Jawahar Lal Bhat. The complainant alleged that despite making payment exceeding Rs. 1 crore, neither possession of the land was handed over nor was the amount refunded.

Investigation revealed that the accused hatched a criminal conspiracy in connivance with each other to cheat the complainant by resorting to impersonation, fabricated identity documents and misuse of a purported Power of Attorney.

Officials said two accused – Brij Nath alias Soom Nath alias Hadi Nath alias Mohan Lal and Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din Dar were arrested in late September. While Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din Dar has secured bail, Brij Nath remains lodged in Central Jail. Other cases against both are also under investigation.

Pertinently, EOW Srinagar had earlier filed a chargesheet in FIR No. 27/2021 in August 2023 against Brij Nath Bhat S/o Late Tara Chand Bhat R/o Indira Nagar Srinagar (A/P House No. 156, Amit Nagar, Muthi, Jammu) and Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh S/o Abdul Ahad Sheikh R/o Sachen Bannet, Beerwah Budgam – making this the second chargesheet against the duo.

SSP EOW Kashmir has advised the public to verify land ownership and documents thoroughly before entering into any property transactions to prevent fraud and financial losses.(GNS)
