Srinagar, Oct 29 (GNS): In a major crackdown on cyber-enabled financial fraud, Baramulla Police has registered a case against two persons for allegedly operating mule bank accounts to route illicit funds.
In a handout to GNS, the police said that Cyber Police Station Baramulla has registered FIR No. 05/2026 under Sections 318(4) and 61(2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 66(c) and 66(d) of the Information Technology Act against Mohsin Ashraf Ganie of Gulshanabad Baramulla and Sahil Irshad of Khanpora Baramulla, presently residing at Chakloo.
According to police, the case was lodged following inputs that certain bank accounts were being used as mule accounts to receive, hold and transfer illicit money within and outside Jammu and Kashmir. Such accounts are often exploited to layer and conceal suspicious transactions, making detection of cyber frauds difficult.
Police said investigation has been set into motion to ascertain the quantum of transactions, fix individual roles, and identify other persons or networks linked to the racket.
Meanwhile, Baramulla Police has reiterated its resolve to take strict action against cyber frauds and appealed to the public not to share bank accounts, ATM cards, credentials or allow third-party use of their accounts for commission, warning that such acts attract legal action.(GNS)
