Baramulla, April 03: (GNS) Taking note of a customer compliant, Legal and Metrology Department (LMD) Baramulla has levied a fine of rupees one lac upon an agricultural spray oil company on allegations of it flouting labeling norms here in the district.
An official told Srinagar based news agency Global News Service (GNS) that taking cognizance of a consumer grievance against the manufacturer alleged of pasting of individual stickers on packages of the spray oil intended to alter the date of manufacture of the spray oil thereby adversely affecting the quality of the spray oil, besides providing incorrect costumer care details, owing to which the aggrieved consumer could not seek redress of their grievance at manufacturer level.
After conducting inspection of the product in question, the Department, as per the official, found the consumer grievance to be genuine and a Seizure Memo was issued against the manufacturer for violation of Section 18 and Section 36 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009.
“The matter was then taken up with the company which, in turn, requested for compounding of the offence. Ultimately, a compounding fee of rupees one lac was recovered from the company”, the official informed.
Meanwhile the department has asked the consumers to assert their rights and approach Legal Metrology Department for redress of their grievances. “Consumers of Baramulla District can register their genuine grievances at official email ID of the Department: aclmbaramulla@gmail.com for proper redress as provided under Law”, it said.
