Scientific Investigation Leads to Arrests, Stolen Property Recovered; Probe Continues in Both Cases
Anantnag, July 23: In a major success against property-related crimes, Anantnag Police has solved two separate burglary cases registered in the district and recovered stolen gold ornaments and cash collectively worth around ₹12 lakh, demonstrating its continued commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of the public.
According to police, the first case pertains to FIR No. 181/2026 registered at Police Station Anantnag following a burglary at Rohu Monghall, where unknown burglars had decamped with gold ornaments valued at nearly ₹6 lakh.
During the course of investigation, police identified and questioned Sheraz Ahmad Goru alias Sharu, a resident of Rabtal Gund, Roshan, Ganderbal. Based on his disclosure, police recovered five stolen gold coins worth approximately ₹6 lakh, which were seized as evidence. Further investigation into the case is underway.
In another breakthrough, Anantnag Police solved FIR No. 195/2026 registered at Police Post Dialgam in connection with a burglary that took place at Iqbalabad, Dialgam during the intervening night of June 18 and 19, 2026.
Police said the investigation relied on a scientific and technology-driven approach, including analysis of tower dump data, call detail records (CDRs), and mobile location evidence. Acting on the technical leads, investigators identified and apprehended two suspects.
During sustained questioning, the accused allegedly confessed to their involvement in the burglary, leading to the recovery of stolen gold ornaments and cash worth nearly ₹6 lakh.
The arrested accused have been identified as Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of New Colony, Frestabal, Pampore, and Nisar Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Nagbal, Zainapora.
Anantnag Police reiterated its commitment to tackling property-related crimes through professional investigation, modern technology, and timely action. Police added that further investigation in both cases is in progress to ascertain whether the accused were involved in any other criminal incidents. (KNC)
