Autumn Session 2026: Calling Attention Motion, 33 WSSs operational in Trehgam constituency; 15 JJM schemes taken up at cost of Rs. 97.71 cr: Rana

26 of 39 villages have adequate drinking water
SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 25: Minister for Jal Shakti, Javed Ahmed Rana, informed the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly that there are 33 Water Supply Schemes presently operational and catering to the requirement of 39 villages in Trehgam constituency
The Minister was replying to a Calling Attention Motion moved by MLA, Mir Saifullah regarding scarcity of drinking water in villages of Trehgam constituency.
The Minister said that 26 out of the 39 villages have no shortage of drinking water facilities. However, drinking water shortages have been reported in 13 villages and the affected areas are presently being provided drinking water through tanker services as per requirement.
He further said that new water supply schemes for most of the identified shortage areas are under execution at various stages under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and other programmes.
The Minister informed that under the Jal Jeevan Mission, a total of 15 water supply schemes involving an estimated cost of Rs. 97.71 crore have been taken up in the constituency. Of these, three schemes have been completed while 12 schemes remain incomplete despite recording more than 85% physical progress. He also informed that Rs. 58.88 crore have been expended on the JJM schemes, against the estimated project cost of Rs. 97.71 crore.
He said that under NABARD/UT Capex three schemes have been taken up in the constituency, of which, WSS Gushi and WSS Laderwan are in final stage of completion and will be commissioned soon.
Moreover, the proposals for coverage/augmentation of some left out habitants have been reflected in various programs like UT Capex, district Capex, SASCI, VVP, DA-JUGA for cent percent coverage of all households in these areas.
The Minister reiterated that the department is taking all necessary measures to address the drinking water-related issues in the Trehgam Constituency. He assured that it would continue to closely monitor the situation and undertake requisite measures to ensure the provision of uninterrupted and adequate drinking water supply in accordance with the prescribed standards.
