Chief Engineer, Superintending Engineer Held While Allegedly Accepting ₹75,000; ₹2 Lakh Each Demanded
BHOPAL, AUGUST 28: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two senior officials of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in Bhopal in connection with an alleged bribery case involving demands for illegal gratification from a private firm.
The arrested officials have been identified as a Chief Engineer (Electrical) and a Superintending Engineer (Electrical) posted with BSNL in Bhopal, the CBI said.
According to the agency, a case was registered on August 27, 2026, after allegations surfaced that the two accused officials had demanded an undue advantage of ₹2 lakh each from a Jabalpur-based private firm.
The alleged bribe was reportedly sought in connection with the execution of Operation and Comprehensive Maintenance (OCM) and electrical installation-related works being carried out for BSNL.
The CBI said the officials allegedly demanded the money for processing and clearing the firm’s pending bills related to 14 different works.
Following the complaint, the agency laid a trap and apprehended both officials while they were allegedly accepting ₹75,000 as part payment of the total bribe amount demanded from the firm.
After the arrests, the CBI conducted searches at the official and residential premises linked to the accused officials at multiple locations, including Bhopal, Lucknow and Kanpur.
The agency said the searches and further investigation are underway to establish the complete circumstances of the alleged bribery transaction and identify any other persons who may be connected with the case.
