Accused Had Allegedly Demanded ₹40,000; Amount Reduced After Negotiations, Says CBI

Udhampur, October 6: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday arrested a Fireman posted under the Assistant Director, Fire & Emergency Services, Udhampur, after allegedly catching him red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹15,000 in connection with the issuance of a Fire & Emergency Services No Objection Certificate (NOC) for a hotel in Katra.

According to a statement issued by the CBI, the agency registered a case on October 6, 2026, on the basis of a complaint alleging that the accused official had demanded ₹40,000 as illegal gratification from the complainant for processing and issuing the requisite Fire & Emergency Services NOC.

The agency said that following negotiations, the accused allegedly agreed to accept ₹15,000 as the bribe.

Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap operation on Tuesday. During the operation, the accused was allegedly caught red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹15,000 from the complainant.

The CBI subsequently took the accused into custody and initiated further proceedings in accordance with law.

The agency said that investigation into the matter is underway and further details are expected to emerge as the probe progresses.

The case highlights the CBI’s continued action against alleged corruption and illegal gratification involving public servants. (KNC)
