Srinagar, Dec 19 (GNS): The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Friday issued promotion orders elevating several AGMUT-cadre IPS officers currently serving or closely associated with J&K to senior police ranks, in a move to bolster the Union Territory’s higher police leadership.

The promotions, approved by the Screening Committee in its meeting earlier this month, will take effect from January 1, 2026, or from the date of assumption of charge, whichever is later.

According to Order (V) issued from Kartavya Bhavan, New Delhi, a copy of which lies with GNS, the IPS officers of the 2008 batch posted in the AGMUT cadre have been promoted to the rank of Inspector General of Police (IGP), Level-14 in the Pay Matrix. Among the officers with past or present operational engagement in J&K policing are Tejinder Singh and Ajay Krishan Sharma, the order said.

In addition, six AGMUT-cadre IPS officers of the 2008 batch presently on central deputation, including officers who have earlier served in sensitive assignments in Jammu and Kashmir, have been granted proforma promotion to the IGP rank. Their promotion will be regulated on an actual basis from the date their immediate juniors assume charge in the cadre.

Further, under Order (VI), the MHA promoted 20 IPS officers of the AGMUT cadre (2012 batch) to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Level-13A, with effect from January 1, 2026.

Several officers in this batch have either served or are expected to be posted in key operational and district-level positions in J&K, strengthening supervisory policing, counter-insurgency coordination and law-and-order management across the Union Territory.

Most significantly for Jammu and Kashmir, the MHA, through Order (VII) dated December 19, 2025, promoted 22 AGMUT-cadre IPS officers of the 2013 batch to the Selection Grade (DIG level), Level-13 in the Pay Matrix.

The officers promoted under this order include Altaf Ahmed Shah, Bakar Hussain Samoon, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat and Mohd Yaseen Kichloo, all of whom have been associated with policing and administrative responsibilities in J&K, besides Ashish Kumar Mishra, Nagpure Amod Ashok, Darade Sharad Bhaskar, V Hareshwar Swami, Vichitra Veer, Jimmy Chiram, Ankit Chauhan, Prashant Priya Gautam, Gurinderpal Singh, Apoorva Gupta, Ankit Kumar Singh, Vikas Kumar, Mohd Irshad Haider, Kumar Gyanesh, Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, Anil Kumar Lal, Rajendra Prasad Meena and Ranjit Singh Samyal.

Additionally, Chandan Kohli and Surendra Choudhary, IPS officers of the 2013 batch currently on central deputation, have been granted proforma promotion to the Selection Grade, to be adjusted on an actual basis from the date their immediate juniors assume charge in the AGMUT cadre. (GNS)
