Poonch, Apr 27: (GNS) A video-clip, purportedly shot in Balakote in Poonch, showing a middle-aged man beating a bird ruthlessly has gone viral on social media.

In a two-minute and eighteen second chilling video, the accused identified as one Mohammad Shakil, resident of Sandote in Balakote area can be seen hitting the bird – Common Myna – on its legs with a stick. Using expletives on the bird tied to a tree, the accused can be seen uttering words “Tell the truth, how many squabs (baby pigeons) has it eaten…”

A senior resident of the area in the meantime said that it is highly unlikely that a common myna would eat the squabs “It never has common to my experience at least that a myna, being a household bird, would have eaten the squabs”, he said.

Meanwhile when contacted Chief Wildlife Warden Poonch Mushtaq Ahmed told Srinagar-based news agency Global News Service (GNS) that they have watched the video-clip and that a team was being sent to the area. “We are ascertaining the nature of offence”, the official said adding, “If warranted a formal case would be registered against the accused very soon.” (GNS)
