Srinagar, Oct 23: Class 10 students who appeared in the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) Urdu annual regular examination on October 22 have sought five grace marks, alleging that two errors in the question paper left them without the correct grammatical choices.
The students have urged the board authorities to address what they describe as structural and grammatical flaws, arguing that the errors caused confusion during the examination and affected their ability to attempt the questions fairly.
The first objection concerns Question 8, carrying four marks, which relates to sentence structure and grammatical analysis. According to the students, the question provided an internal choice between two sentences that both belong to the category of verbal sentences, instead of offering a choice between a nominal sentence and a verbal sentence, as they say the prescribed examination pattern requires.
The two sentences cited by the students are “Ladki ne khoobsurat gaana gaaya” (The girl sang a beautiful song) and “Woh kitaab likh raha hai” (He is writing a book). They contend that both are verbal sentences, leaving them without the intended grammatical alternative. They have demanded four grace marks for this question.
A second objection concerns a one-mark multiple-choice question based on the sentence “Rashid bohut ghareeb hai” (Rashid is very poor). The students claim that the correct grammatical option, referring to the subject or doer of the action, was missing from the choices provided. They have sought one additional grace mark for this question.
The two alleged errors have prompted a collective demand for five grace marks. Students say the questions created uncertainty during the examination and consumed valuable time as they tried to interpret the wording and available choices.
The students have called on JKBOSE to examine the disputed questions and provide a fair and uniform remedy to all affected candidates. They have urged the board to seek an expert assessment of the paper and clarify how the alleged discrepancies will be addressed during evaluation. [KNT]
