‘Stretch Closed Four Times In Last 10 days’ Zaffer Iqbal Uri, Mar 8 (GNS): The Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road in border town Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district has been witnessing frequent closure over the past ten days due to landslides triggered by heavy rains. This has been causing significant inconvenience for both commuters and locals. Reports indicate that the strategic road was closed at least four times in the last ten days after landslides hit the N S Bridge area. A delegation of locals mentioned that the road was closed again early this morning around 6 am due to landslides near the N S Bridge, disrupting traffic for more than two hours. However, the concerned authorities acted swiftly and cleared the stretch. The locals also pointed out that last Tuesday, the road was blocked at the same location and remained closed for several hours, preventing traffic movement. This has not been the first occurrence, as the road has previously been closed too due to landslides at N S Bridge. It is worth noting that the road is currently undergoing widening. Locals have urged the construction company working on the road widening project to station a JCB machine near the affected area to ensure quicker restoration of the road. “The closure of this vital road has become a frequent issue, and unfortunately, the authorities have failed to resolve it permanently. We demand a lasting solution, as we are suffering daily,” the locals said. The worst-hit are the patients who need to travel to hospitals in Baramulla or Srinagar or are referred from SDH Uri. Meanwhile Tehsildar Uri told GNS that we have already directed the construction company station a JCB machine near the affected area.he further said we will take up the matter with BRO also.(GNS) Share this:PostWhatsAppTelegramTweetEmailLike this:Like Loading...
